Is it time to switch from iOS to Android? Here is what you need to know before you do.

Apple has released the iPhone 7 and there has been a lot of talk of Apple losing its edge in the market. With fewer changes to their phones, many people are thinking about other options outside of iOS. SHOCKING! We know this seems like blasphemy to some, but here are somethings we think you should know before you take the plunge.

Things You Need to Know

  1. You might have to purchase some of your apps again

Unfortunately the App Store and Play Store are completely separate and that means that your apps won’t transfer across from your iPhone to your new Android device. For apps that are paid by subscriptions, such as Spotify, this isn’t a problem, download the new app and you’re off and running. For apps that you purchased through the App Store however, you will need to re-purchase these on your new device.

  2. Customization is the key!

Until you have owned an Android phone, you can’t possibly understand what the customization of a phone truly looks like. Having the ability to customize almost all parts of the operating system on your phone will probably blow your mind. If you want to change the look of icons, colours of text and more, Android is a great fit for you.

  3. Plan out how you are going to transfer your data

You don’t have to leave everything behind on your iPhone when you switch over to Android! You will need to set up a Google account and from there you’ll be able to move the majority of your data off one phone and onto the other. You’ll be able to export your calendars, contacts, photos and even your documents.

  4. Discover widgets

If you were a die-hard Apple user, this will be something completely new for you. “You can imagine them as “at-a-glance” views of an app’s most important data and functionality that is accessible right from the user’s home screen. Users can move widgets across their home screen panels, and, if supported, resize them to tailor the amount of information within a widget to their preference.” This way you can keep the information that is most important to you as close as possible.

  5. Be Patient

While it isn’t as bad as it used to be, many apps are still developed for iOS first before they pop up in the Play Store. This doesn’t just mean the app itself, but also any updates and new features. Your friends might be enjoying the newest trend in mobile apps well before you even have the chance to download it. So be prepared to be patient.
Oh, and if you are used to opening your iPhone with Touch ID, enjoy that speed while you have it, no other Touch ID registers quite as quickly and efficiently as Apple’s design.
